Instead of one grace note leading into a full stroke, the drag has two grace notes &#8211; or a light <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drumeo.com\/beat\/double-stroke-roll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">double stroke<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There\u2019s no rhythmic value to a grace note, so it\u2019s up to you to decide how much space you want to leave between that and the primary note (less is better). Make sure to leave very little space between them and keep the drumstick low before playing the grace notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The other challenge is getting two clean strokes at low volume. But you shouldn\u2019t go click-free for long. Don\u2019t just say \u201cit\u2019s good enough\u201d. Develop control first, and speed will come later.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Try setting your metronome to 60 BPM and play a drag on each quarter note, alternating your lead hand each time. Try starting with your left hand, too. Try to set up a practice pad and a snare stand in front of a full length mirror if you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll be able to notice if you\u2019re gripping your sticks too hard, or if your stick height doesn\u2019t look right. Use your reflection as a window into how you\u2019re doing.
